Development of Social Responsibility Toolkit and Guidelines for the Mineral Exploration Sector in Peru
RMD was retained by the Federal Government of Canada and the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) to develop the Kit De Herramientas de Relacionamiento y Comunicación, a toolkit and good practice guidance for social responsibility, community relations and communications for junior and senior mining companies, while conducting mineral exploration in Peru. The toolkit was officially launched in Lima by MINEM and the Canadian Embassy in early September, 2018, during the EXPOMINA PERU Mining Trade Show and can be viewed here.”
The Rise in Conflict Associated with Mining Operations: What Lies Beneath?
A global applied research project designed to improve understanding of conflict associated with mining, focused on the roles and responsibilities of companies, communities and host governments and based on field-based studies in Latin America and Africa. RMD was responsible for project inception, design, assembling the research team, project management, data integration and report writing. Funding for the Phase 1 study was provided by the Canadian International Resources and Development Institute (CIRDI). The report may be viewed and downloaded here.
The Role of Host Governments in Enabling or Preventing Conflict Associated with Mining
This project is an outgrowth of the conflict study outlined above, focused on the role of host governments in conflict associated with mining. Funding for this project was provided by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The report will be published in October, 2018 on the CIRDI and UNDP websites.
